Total & Direct Bilirubin
Bilirubin is a byproduct of the breakdown of hemoglobin that occurs in the bone marrrow and eventually the liver.
Total and direct bilirubin are usually measured to screen for liver or gallbladder problems. They are done to monitor your liver while you are taking medication.
