Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)
Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of the amino acid alanine.
Liver damage releases extra ALT into the blood, so measuring ALT levels in the blood is a way of assessing whether the liver has been harmed in some way.
This test is usually done to monitor the effect of medication on your liver.
