Clinical Trials & Research

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis–two types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)–are complex conditions that we still do not fully understand. The BWH Crohn’s and Colitis Center has a team of leading physicians and expert scientists who are actively investigating two main questions: what causes IBD, and how can we optimize treatment for each individual?

Current areas of study include:

  • New drugs and therapies
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Genetics and environment
  • Psychosocial health
  • Microbiome

Patients with IBD play a critical role in helping us increase our understanding of IBD, and there are many ways you can help. Consider allowing us to collect some extra blood for research, answering a survey about your health, or maybe even participating in a clinical trial.

If you are interested in learning more about specific studies, please speak with your gastroenterologist or contact Justine States (jstates@partners.org), the study coordinator in our Center.
